‘Sheltered’ employs a photomontage technique inspired by lenticular imagery that allows two images to be viewed simultaneously. Two views of Weston shore featuring the distinctive Art Deco promenade shelters merge, capturing a sense of the multiple, changing views these shelters offer and contribute to.
'Sheltered' was exhibited in 'View to Somewhere'.
At a time of uncertainty and division, View to Somewhere brings together artworks exploring different perspectives and new ways of looking, understanding, and finding connection.
Whether through intimate narratives, social critique, or abstract exploration, each artwork offers a distinct viewpoint and interpretation of the exhibition’s title. Collectively, they remind us that no matter our situation, we can always shift our perception, seek alternative views, and embrace new ways of thinking.
Placed outside their usual context, the shipping containers that house the exhibition provide an apt frame, both for the displayed artworks and the view out onto Southampton. Timed with the arrival of spring, a season of transition and renewal, the exhibition invites us to embrace the unknown with openness and curiosity.
